NASDAQ Most Traded, November 23
Yahoo! (NASDAQ: YHOO) led the Nasdaq volume pack, trading up 7 cents to $15.45 on the day. The major news for the company wasn’t its own; arch-rival Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) announced that it was to buy display advertising Teracent. The announcement likely didn’t faze trading in Yahoo! shares, as Google’s move is consistent with that company’s stated ambition to buy an average of one small company per month.
Pharmaceutical stock Mylan (NASDAQ: MYL) also traded briskly, still in the wake of the FDA’s approval of a new acid reflux disease drug developed by the company’s subsidiary. Mylan stock was up 43 cents on the day to close at $17.98.
Chinese seed crop specialist Origin Agritech (NASDAQ: SEED) more than doubled in stock price on the day, to $10.45. The jump comes on the heels of China’s Ministry of Agriculture granting the company de facto final approval for its genetically modified phytase corn.
Venerable software provider CA (NASDAQ: CA) traded largely sideways on healthy volume, ending the day 69 cents up at $22.55. The firm ended last week by completing its $200 million acquisition of NetQoS, a network management software company. CA said that NetQoS would operate as an independent entity within CA’s structure.

A Google news defection may dent the 'franchise'

Why a Deal With News Corp Would Make Bing the Trader Joe’s of Search
Andy Beal submits: A confession.Sometimes I use Bing.com. Stop looking at me that way. I said I “use” Bing.com. I didn’t say I enjoy it! In fact, I “use” Bing.com when I’m shopping online and want to get the best price. Bing has a pretty cool shopping engine and I can get up to 10% cashback with its cashback program.See? I use Bing.com.The problem is, that use does not result in me using the search engine for any other task. And that is the issue I see with rumors that Bing is willing to pay News Corp ( NWS) and other news organizations to provide their content exclusively to the Microsoft ( MSFT) search engine. The FT reports: Microsoft has had discussions with News Corp over a plan that would involve the media company being paid to “de-index” its news websites from Google, setting the scene for a search engine battle that could offer a ray of light to the newspaper industry.

Google Buys Teracent, Continues Expansion Into Advertising
Internet search giant Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) said it acquired closely held Teracent Corp., a 3-year-old startup, in an effort to boost sales of visual Web advertisements. Terms of the deal weren't disclosed.
Google started its move into advertising last year with its $3.2 billion purchase of DoubleClick. Google is also in the process of buying AdMob, a startup specializing in ads for mobile devices, for $750 million.
Google had $22 billion in cash as of the end of September.

Microsoft (MSFT) Challenges Google (GOOG)
Microsoft (NYSE: MSFT) has decided to take the ‘search-engine’ war to the next level. After introducing Bing, Microsoft is now trying to cut Google’s (NYSE: GOOG) resources.
Microsoft is rumored to have entered into a pact with News Corp (NYSE: NWS) to remove its listing from Google database. Microsoft is also in talks with other major online publishers to remove their sites from rival Google’s search database. These developments are expected to affect not only Google’s fortune but will also have tremendous impact on newspaper industry.
The newspaper industry is currently witnessing a tectonic shift from print to online model, however it yet has to come up with a feasible model. At the very same time, Google downplayed the developments claiming that news content is not a major source of revenue for it. Microsoft and News Corp, however, have declined to confirm the news.
