Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) reported a strong quarter at the end of October on the back of resurgent demand in the PC market. But the key issue to watch is the important transition in the company’s major technologies.
Microsoft just launched its very successful Windows 7 operating system, which has produced a major new ...
Hewlett-Packard Co said a strong performance in China and improved profit margins in its services business helped drive quarterly earnings 14 percent higher. The fiscal fourth quarter results released on Monday were in line with those the company preannounced two weeks ago, which topped Wall Street's estimates.
Datel, a company selling memory units for Xbox 360 consoles, filed an antitrust suit against Microsoft for blocking unauthorized third party memory units. Microsoft claims innocence, as the block is meant to reduce cheating on Xbox Live, not reduce competition. Datel maintains that Microsoft is "disabling or erecting technological barriers...

Bruce Everiss submits:I have written here before about 3D gaming and how it greatly enhances the experience and immersiveness of gaming. To me it is like being at the theater, whilst 2D gaming is like watching the TV. A huge jump.
Now Sony (SNE) has come out with their 3D plans and they are really going for it, which makes a lot of sense to me. This forms a part of Sony's overall corporate strategy and is not just limited to video games. The corporate goal is a “Target revenue from 3D-related products of more than 1 trillion yen (excluding content) in the fiscal year ending March 31, 2013.″ So they are being pretty ambitious.
First, we heard that Family Guy's Seth McFarlane and Microsoft (MSFT) were teaming up for a special to promote Windows 7. Then Microsoft pulled the plug after seeing that the special included Holocaust humor and other offensive material. Microsoft did say that Family Guy remained in its marketing plans "in other areas".
Via CrunchGear, here is the proof from last night that it is indeed still all love between McFarlane and Microsoft:
SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) - If news publishers with the heft of News Corp. start seeking out alternatives to Google Inc.'s online search index, it could have an intangible, but potentially significant impact on the Mountain View, Calif.-based Internet giant.
A confession.Sometimes I use Bing.com. Stop looking at me that way. I said I “use” Bing.com. I didn’t say I enjoy it! In fact, I “use” Bing.com when I’m shopping online and want to get the best price. Bing has a pretty cool shopping engine and I can get up to 10% cashback with its cashback program.See? I use Bing.com.The problem is, that use does not result in me using the search engine for any other task. And that is the issue I see with rumors that Bing is willing to pay News Corp (NWS) and other news organizations to provide their content exclusively to the Microsoft (MSFT) search engine. The FT reports:
Microsoft has had discussions with News Corp over a plan that would involve the media company being paid to “de-index” its news websites from Google, setting the scene for a search engine battle that could offer a ray of light to the newspaper industry.
