China is without question one of the biggest and most important markets for global investors to understand. Whether you’re a Bull or Bear on Chinese stocks, you need to understand how the Chinese economy will affect the companies in your portfolio, wherever those companies may be located.
Investors also need to be able to filter through [...]
The Manual of Ideas has detailed notes from a presentation given by Charles de Vaulx of International Value Advisers LLC at the Value Investing Congress earlier this week in Pasadena.
Charles is bullish on Swiss food giant Nestle and Secom, a Japanese company that specializes in home security systems. He also likes gold, high-yield bonds, [...]
Templeton’s Mark Mobius on emerging market stocks in a recent Bloomberg interview:
“If you look at price-to-book value, you see that it’s below the average that we’ve seen for a number of years,” Mobius said. “We are not buying stocks that have a price- earnings ratio of over 10, by and large, with some exceptions, and [...]
There may be nothing in the history of the hedge fund industry that is as poorly understood as the demise of Long Term Capital Management. In this amazing video from MIT TechTV you can hear the whole story from ex-LTCM partner Eric Rosenfeld.
One of the greatest value investors of our time held forth the other day for a small group of listeners. There were no CNBC cameras, no arenas packed with faithful followers, and no talking lizards.
Just a conference call. Four people asked questions and it was over in less than an hour. It wasn’t mentioned anywhere [...]
I cofounded a company called Sawhorse Media that's making sense of Twitter, which was founded by past Venture Voice guest Ev Williams.
We decided to launch a new site called Venture Maven to make it easy to follow what VCs and angels are tweeting about. For example, if you were pitching Spark Capital, you could have checked Venture Maven yesterday to see one partner was at the dentist and a principal just got off painkillers after a knee surgery. Better open the meeting with a good joke.
Please let me know your feedback. We're also thinking of launching a similar site for founders and CEOs.
You can find Venture Voice on Twitter at @VentureVoice and me personally at @Gregory.

Headline: Yellen signals letting Lehman collapse was a mistake
American entrepreneuralism, as exemplified by innovators like Thomas Edison and Henry Ford, could not have been possible without an equally innovative, creative, engineering marvel known as America’s capital system HQ’d on the corner of Broad St. and Nassau St; home of the NYSE.
Over the decades the home [...]
In the US, the rhetoric damning the Federal Reserve Bank in Washington D.C. is well known to anyone who listens to Jim Rogers, Peter Schiff and the rest of the ‘hard money’ crowd that are enlisted by Bloomberg TV to point out the blindingly obvious to the deaf and dumb masses.
But where is the outcry [...]
The British Pound is doomed. Three years ago, while doing our ResonanceFM 104.4 show, “The Truth About Markets,” Stacy and I commented on news that Bradford & Bingley was offering customers 120% mortgages. At the time we pointed out that this was guaranteed to bankrupt B&B and the entire banking sector if they were allowed [...]
