Calif. - OpenX Technologies, an
independent ad server for Web publishers, announced on Tuesday that it has
raised a $10 million third round of financing, led by DAG Ventures.
Bellevue,
Wash. - Visible Technologies, a
provider of social media analysis services, has raised $6 million in its third
round of venture capital financing from existing investors, PaidContent
reported, citing a regulatory filing.
Kansas City,
Mo. - Angel investment groups on
average invested 9% less last year than in 2007, according to a new survey by
the Angel Capital Association (ACA).

- The Business Insider, a blog network launched by former securities analyst
Henry Blodget that includes Silicon Alley Insider, announced on Thursday that
it has closed a third round of financing, from new investors Allen & Co.,
Marc Andressen, Jim Friedlich and Matt Luckett.
San Diego - Loop'd Network, a sports-focused online social
network, said on Thursday that it has secured an additional $800,000 in funding
from existing backers, and new investor Tech Coast Angels.
The IVC research center has released the Summary of Israeli High-Tech Company Capital Raising for Q1 2009. $265 million were raised by start ups in the first quarter of 2009 from both local and foreign funds.

The industry is very concentrated, with the top 8 global auto companies having more than 90% of global revenues and the top 50 global auto parts companies having 80% of global revenues (the top 4 US tire producers have 75% of the US market). There is a focus on automation and simplifying product lines to lower costs and benefit from economies of scale. The average car now needs only 15-25 man-hours per vehicle and this drops 2% annually. Hybrid/alternative cars represent a source of growth in the future. Market share gains by hybrids/alternatives will be slow, and they are now only 4% of cars on the road.
