China raised interest rates, aiming to temper investment and steady the financial system, in a move that shows how vigorous growth there remains, even as clouds loom over the economies of its trading partners. - WSJ

PetroChina Co. (PTR) said Monday its 2006 net profit rose 6.6%, slower than a 28% rise in the previous year, due to higher production costs, wider refining losses and a windfall profit tax on oil sales. - MarketWatch

AstraZeneca PLC (AZN) Monday unveiled yet another drug failure as the U.K. drugmaker and its U.S. partner AtheroGenics Inc (AGIX) said their experimental pill for atherosclerosis, AGI-1067, didn't meet its main target in a late-stage trial. - MarketWatch

Textron shares are expected to double over the next five years as demand for its helicopters and jets rise, according to a Barron's report.

Quanta Services Inc. (PWR), which provides contracting services to the electricity, gas and telecommunications industry, said it has agreed to buy InfraSource Services Inc. (IFS) in an all-stock deal valued at $1.26 billion. Under the terms of the deal InfraSource shareholders will receive 1.223 shares of Quanta stock for each share of InfraSource, representing a value of $30.13, or a 17.4% premium over the closing price on Friday. Quanta said the deal is expected to enhance its earnings in 2008, adding it expects to achieve cost and operational synergies through the integration of project and asset management functions as well as procurement and administrative cost savings. - MarketWatch

Community Health was near a deal for Triad Hospitals, breaking up a $4.5 billion buyout plan by private-equity funds. - WSJ

Clayton Dubilier is to pay $4.8 billion for ServiceMaster (SVM), in the private-equity firm's first foray into home services. - WSJ

ABN Amro is facing pressure to revamp or sell its far-flung operations. The Dutch bank has attracted informal approaches from other big European banks, and is looking to beef up its defenses, though a hostile bid is seen as unlikely. - WSJ

Denmark's DONG Energy A/S (DONG.YY) Monday said it has signed an agreement to acquire ConocoPhillips Petroleum International Corp. Denmark from Phillips Petroleum International Corp. for $300 million. - MarketWatch

Brazilian state-run oil company Petrobras and two partners are expected to announce a deal Monday worth about US$1.5 billion (euro1.1 billion) to buy Ipiranga, the No. 2 oil distributor and refiner in Latin America's largest nation, the Estado de S. Paulo newspaper reported Sunday.

Hercules Offshore Inc. (HERO) said Monday it would acquire Todco (THE) for $2.3 billion in cash and stock. The combined company would have 33 jackup rigs, 27 barge rigs, 64 liftboats, three submersible rigs, nine land rigs and one platform rig. Todco shareholders will receive 0.979 shares of Hercules Offshore and $16 in cash for each share of Todco common stock outstanding. The deal contemplates using 56.9 million shares of Hercules and cash of $930.7 million. - MarketWatch
